Make A Valentine For Someone Sweet!

Come to the Library on February 4 at 6:30 to make Valentine’s Day Cards!  Make special cards for all the special people in your life.  Please sign up at the circulation desk. (Grades 1 - 5)

February Break Activities

If you’re looking for something to do the library has plenty to offer over the School Break, February 19-22. 

Tuesday February 19

  • Origami at 1:00 PM.  Show off your creative side and learn how to make some really cool designs.  Grades K-5.

Wednesday February 20

  • Snowy Story Time for Preschoolers and their caregivers at 10:30 AM.  Includes a craft.
  • Make crazy sock creatures with your friends at 2:00 PM.  Grades 6 & up.  Sign up at the circulation desk.

Thursday February 21

  • Music with Mona, a family style sing along at 10:30 for toddlers and preschoolers.
  • Snow crafts and snacks at 1:00 PM.  Grades K-5.
  • The first Teen Advisory Comittee Meeting.  Come at 6:00 PM and helpf deicide what we do at the library.  It’s something to do and looks great on college applications.
  • Dance Dance Revolution.  Come hang out, eat some food and show off your DDR skills on the big screen.  From7:00-9:00 PM

Friday February 22

  • Enjoy an afternoon movie with the family.  Relax at the library and watch a wintry movie.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney is a great book for any one who has ever been to middle school, is there right now or is headed there soon.  The “diary” of Greg Heffley follows his adventures throughout the school year from the dreaded wrestling unit in gym to the end of the year student awards.  Greg will keep readers laughing with both his funny stories and great illustrations.  Also, look out for the sequel coming out this February, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodderick Rules. Special Holiday Story Hour

Everyone is invited to a special story hour on Tuesday, January 29 at 1:30 to learn about the Jewish Holiday Tu B’Shevat.  Originally the

Holiday marked the beginning of the legal year but now it is more commonly known as the

New Year for Trees. This preschool story hour will include stories and a craft.

Award Winning Books

The 2008 Caldecott Award winner is The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick (J FICT SEL). 

The Honor Books are:

Each year the Caldecott Award is given to a book published in the previous year that has exceptional illustrations.

The John Newbery Medal goes to a book published in the last year that the American Library Association considers to be the most distinquished. 

The Printz Award is given to an excellent young adult book.  The 2008 Printz Award went to The White Darkness by Geraldine McCaughrean.
