The 2008 Caldecott Award winner is The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick (J FICT SEL).
The Honor Books are:
- Henry’s Freedom Box: A True Story from the Underground Railrod by illustrated by Kadir Nelson, written by Ellen Levine (JP FICT LEV)
- First the Egg, written and illustrated by Laura Vaccaro Seeger (J FICT SEE)
- The Wall: Growing Up Behind the Iron Curtain, written and illustrated by Peter Sís (J 943.7 S)
- Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity, written and illustrated Mo Willems (JP FICT WIL)
Each year the Caldecott Award is given to a book published in the previous year that has exceptional illustrations.
The 2008 Newbery Award Winning Book is Good Masters! Voices from a Medival Village by Laura Amy Schlitz The Honor Books Are:
- Elijah of Buxton by Christopher Paul Curtis ( J FICT CUR)
- The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt
- Feathers by Jacqueline Woodson ( J FICT WOO)
The John Newbery Medal goes to a book published in the last year that the American Library Association considers to be the most distinquished.
The Printz Award is given to an excellent young adult book. The 2008 Printz Award went to The White Darkness by Geraldine McCaughrean.
