ferris wheel

& the Middle School Book Club of 2009-2010

The 4th & 5th Grade Book Club and the Middle School Book Club have finished their Ferris Wheel!  The very first Ferris Wheel was created by George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. in 1893 for the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.  It was 264 feet tale and weighed 142,351 pounds.  The tallest Ferris Wheel in the World is the Singapore Flyer built in 2008 and measuring up at 541 feet.  Our Ferris Wheel was inspired by The London Eye Mystery by Siobhan Dowd a book that features Europe’s tallest and most famous Ferris Wheel.  Our Ferris Wheel  constructed of craft sticks, construction paper and paper clips.  It was built entirely by the hardworking girls of the 4th & 5th Grade Book Club and the Middle School Book Club.

If you are interested in joining either book club you may do so at anytime.  Either stop at the Children’s Room Desk to pick up our next book or just show up at our next meeting.  The Middle School Book Club’s next meeting is Wednesday, April 14 at 4:00 PM in the Teen Area.  We will be discussing Septimus Heap Book 1: Magyk by Angie Sage.  The 4th & 5th Grade Book Club will meet next on Thursday, April 15 at 4:00 PM in the Children’s Room.  We will be discussing The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart.

A big tooth fell out, and left a space

So big my tongue could touch my face

And everytime I smile, I show

A space where something used to grow.

I miss my tooth as you can guess

But then I have to brush one less!
